MUSCAT – The Embassy of Pakistan in Muscat has announced specific name requirements for e-passport applications.
The embassy has advised Pakistani nationals in Oman to ensure their personal details meet the prescribed criteria before applying for the new travel document.
According to a public notice issued by the embassy, e-passport processing began on October 23, 2026, in line with guidelines issued by the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (IMPASS).
Under the new requirements, applicants must have both a first name and a last name. Applications for passports bearing a single name will not be processed.
Maximum Limit for Name Characters
The guidelines set a maximum limit of 50 characters for the first name and 40 characters for the last name. The names of relatives, including the father, husband or guardian, are also subject to a limit of 40 characters each.
Applicants whose identity documents contain only a single name have been advised to update their National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) or Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) before applying for an e-passport.
The embassy has also announced that it will no longer process applications for Machine Readable Passports (MRPs) following the introduction of the e-passport service.
However, Pakistani nationals who were issued machine-readable passports before October 23, 2026, can continue using them until their respective expiry dates.
