Punjab Unveils Rs3bn Electric Fog Cannon Plan To Fight Smog

LAHORE – The capital city of Punjab, Lahore, once again ranked most polluted city in word as smog continues to blanket Lahore as deteriorating air quality affects visibility across the city.

LAHORE – Lahore, the capital of Punjab, has once again ranked as the world’s most polluted city as persistent smog blankets the metropolis, with deteriorating air quality reducing visibility across the city.

As per data available in IQAir portal, the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of Lahore recorded at 326 while several localities recorded extremely high levels of air pollution.

Iqbal Town recorded the highest AQI at 605, followed by Gulberg II at 553. Paragon City registered an AQI of 372, while the readings stood at 355 in Cantt and 348 along Barki Road.

Other areas also reported elevated pollution levels. The AQI was recorded at 280 in Chaman Park, 279 in Model Town, 268 in DHA Phase V, 238 on Bedian Road and 215 in Askari X.

Meanwhile, the city’s current temperature was reported at 23 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 31°C, while the minimum is forecast to fall to 18°C.

According to the Meteorological Department, humidity stood at 71 per cent, with winds blowing at a speed of 5 kilometres per hour.

No rainfall was expected in Lahore during the day, according to the supplied forecast. The absence of rain could limit the prospects of short-term relief from the prevailing smog and poor air quality.

The reported readings highlight the widespread nature of air pollution across Lahore, with several neighbourhoods recording particularly high AQI levels.
