Pakistan Water Week To Bring Experts Together In Islamabad From Nov 2

ISLAMABAD – Islamabad will host the sixth edition of Pakistan Water Week from November 2 to 6, with national and international participants expected to discuss ways to improve water management and strengthen climate-resilient food systems.

The event is being organised by IWMI in partnership with the Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) and the Ministry of Water Resources.

Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani is scheduled to attend the opening session as the chief guest. The conference will bring together parliamentarians, researchers, young leaders, civil society representatives, journalists and development partners, with participation available both in person and online.

This year’s conference will focus on the theme “Commitments to Action: Advancing Water Security and Achieving Climate-Resilient Food Systems in Pakistan,” highlighting the need to translate policy commitments into practical solutions.

The programme will feature two parallel thematic tracks, each containing 13 sessions. Discussions will focus on implementing water and agricultural policies and promoting inclusive approaches to strengthen resilience against climate-related challenges.

Among the key subjects on the agenda are groundwater management, irrigation reforms, the relationship between drought and health, climate financing and Pakistan’s preparations for COP31.

Participants will also explore emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and digital twins, alongside climate-related risks affecting the cryosphere in the Upper Indus Basin. Women’s participation and youth leadership in water security will also feature in the discussions.
