OTTAWA – Pakistan and Canada moved to deepen cooperation in specialist medical education, as leading postgraduate medical institutions signing Memorandum of Understanding covering training, capacity building and the exchange of best practices.
The agreement was signed between College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) during a ceremony hosted by High Commission for Pakistan in Ottawa, according to an official announcement dated October 23, 2026.
CPSP President Professor Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal led the Pakistani delegation, while the Canadian delegation was headed by Royal College Chief Executive Officer Dr. Christopher Watling. The partnership establishes framework for collaboration in postgraduate medical education, professional training and capacity building, including faculty development. Both institutions will also share best practices in areas of mutual interest.
The signing follows earlier diplomatic efforts to strengthen links between the two institutions. The new agreement could support closer academic ties and improvements in specialist training, although its practical rollout remains to be detailed. The public announcement does not specify funding, the agreement’s duration, participating specialties or hospitals, or the number of potential beneficiaries.
