Security forces killed eight militants in three intelligence-based operations in Balochistan’s Quetta, Nushki and Khuzdar districts, the military’s media wing said on Sunday.
According to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement, the operations were conducted on October 17 following reports about the presence of militants affiliated with the Indian proxy group Fitna al-Hindustan.
In Quetta’s Panjpai area, security forces intercepted militants who were allegedly attempting to set up a roadblock to disrupt local traffic. The ensuing operation resulted in the deaths of five militants, the statement said.
In a separate operation in Nushki district, security personnel raided a suspected militant hideout. Two militants were killed following an intense exchange of fire, while weapons and ammunition were recovered from the site, the ISPR added.
Meanwhile, security forces targeted a militant hideout in Khuzdar district, killing another militant. The operation also led to the recovery of approximately 490 kilogrammes of explosives, according to the statement.
The military said clearance operations were under way in the affected areas to locate and eliminate any remaining militants.
It added that security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue counterterrorism efforts under the government’s vision of Azm-e-Istehkam.
Pakistan has experienced a significant increase in militant violence, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021.
