Saudi Arabia-led coalition said it had intercepted and destroyed a drone over the Riyadh region amid escalating attacks attributed to Yemen’s Houthi movement.
Coalition spokesperson Major General Turki al-Maliki confirmed the interception, according to the Saudi Press Agency, but did not disclose the drone’s origin or intended target.
Saudi authorities also reported intercepting four drones over Riyadh, the Eastern Province and southern regions on Saturday. The attacks have reportedly disrupted air traffic and caused damage from falling debris.
Meanwhile, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi offered defensive support to Saudi Arabia if requested, while Iran renewed its offer to mediate in the conflict.
Yemen’s Foreign Minister Afrah al-Zouba rejected the proposal, saying Tehran was a party to the war rather than a neutral mediator.
The Houthis also alleged that Saudi airstrikes had caused casualties across Sanaa and six other provinces. Saudi authorities extended remote learning for students in Riyadh and nearby Diriyah amid continued security concerns.
