Laiba Suicide Case How Suspect Used Chatgpt To Deceive Student In Us Visa Scam

ISLAMABAD – Prime suspect identified as Noman allegedly used ChatGPT to impersonate other people to deceive a student named Laiba Ijaz with promise of getting her US visa, it has emerged in police investigation.

According to preliminary police findings, the suspect, identified as Noman, had worked for approximately 15 years in an anti-corruption department before reportedly being dismissed for prolonged absence in 2022. He later worked as a manager at various insurance companies and joined an insurance firm in Islamabad’s Blue Area in 2025, the sources said.

Reports said Noman first came into contact with Laiba in March 2023, when she applied for an internship at an insurance company. Although she met him, she could not join the office because she was giving private tuition. The suspect later hired Laiba, her sister and their mother for advertising work related to a tuck shop.

According to the police account, a woman named Aiza managed the tuck shop and passed on work to Laiba and her family. Since Aiza’s brother was living in the United States, Laiba approached Noman for help in securing a US visa through the family connection.

Police investigation revealed that Noman subsequently created another account while posing as Aiza and began communicating with Laiba. He allegedly used ChatGPT to imitate both Aiza and her brother, sending documents that Laiba initially believed to be genuine.

The suspect reportedly gave Laiba several dates for a visa interview, first September 1, then September 17, and later September 26. After becoming suspicious, Laiba checked the documents and discovered that they were allegedly fake.

Laiba had given Noman money obtained from her father after the sale of a plot worth Rs21 million, as well as jewellery belonging to her stepmother.

The reports indicated that Laiba came under pressure to return her stepmother’s jewellery. She allegedly asked Noman to return the jewellery first, saying that the remaining financial matters could be addressed later.

Police said that Noman subsequently began avoiding Laiba and eventually cut off contact with her. The sources allege that the situation left her distressed and that she later died by suicide.

Investigators suspect that the accused may have defrauded other women as well. Police sources said the suspect had deleted data from his mobile phone before investigators could examine it.

The phone is expected to undergo forensic analysis, with investigators hoping to recover deleted information and identify any additional potential victims.
