Sindh mpox tally rises to 44 after fresh Nawabshah case

The health authorities are continuing to monitor mpox cases across Pakistan as Sindh reports a rising number of infections during 2026.

Health Department sources said 44 mpox cases have been confirmed in Sindh this year, including 15 cases reported in Karachi. The latest case involves a 50-year-old man from Nawabshah who has also been diagnosed with kidney disease.

The patient was initially taken to Jinnah Hospital after developing symptoms of mpox and was later shifted to the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital. He has been placed in isolation and his condition is reportedly improving.

The development comes as health authorities maintain surveillance for suspected mpox cases and advise people with symptoms to seek medical evaluation promptly.

Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, is a viral infection that can spread through close contact with an infected person. Common symptoms include fever, headache, swollen lymph nodes, muscle aches and a rash that can develop into skin lesions.

Pakistan has continued to strengthen monitoring and response measures following the detection of mpox cases in different parts of the country. However, the 44 cases reported by Sindh health authorities represent the provincial tally and should not be treated as Pakistan’s nationwide total.

The local authorities have urged people to follow medical advice and take appropriate precautions, particularly when they have had close contact with someone suspected of having the infection.
