Corps Commanders Reaffirm Right To Strike Terror Threats Emanating From Afghanistan

RAWALPINDI – Pakistan’s military leadership issued a strong warning against terrorism and attempts to destabilise the country, while reaffirming its readiness to defend national security and respond decisively to emerging threats.

The security landscape took centre stage at GHQ as top military commanders gathered to assess growing threats. Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir chaired the 277th Corps Commanders’ Conference at General Headquarters (GHQ), Rawalpindi, where commanders conducted an extensive review of the country’s security landscape.

The conference opened with Fateha for the martyrs of the Armed Forces, law enforcement agencies and civil society. Participants paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for Pakistan and acknowledged their services to the country.

A major focus of the meeting was the continuing threat of terrorism. The commanders resolved to maintain a high level of operational preparedness and reaffirmed Pakistan’s right to defend itself against terrorist threats emanating from Afghanistan.

The forum held the Taliban leadership responsible for the consequences of what it described as the facilitation of terrorism on behalf of India, signalling a firm military position on cross-border militant activity.

At the same time, commanders praised the sustained performance of law enforcement agencies in intelligence-based counter-terrorism operations.

However, the military leadership stressed that kinetic operations must be accompanied by broader measures aimed at addressing the conditions that allow militancy and organised crime to persist.

The conference called for people-centric governance at the grassroots level, stronger engagement with the public, dismantling of the terror-crime nexus operating under the patronage of vested interests and enhanced police capacity.

The measures are to be pursued within the framework of the National Action Plan and Vision Azm-e-Istehkam.

Internal stability also emerged as a central concern during the conference.

The forum resolved that any attempt to generate agitation or create a situation resembling the May 9 events, regardless of the pretext, would be met with decisive action in accordance with the rule of law.

The commanders emphasised that such measures would be taken without hesitation or discrimination.

The conference also welcomed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, viewing the trilateral arrangement as a further strengthening of the countries’ longstanding strategic and collective defence relationship.

The development comes after military chiefs from the three countries recently held urgent consultations in Riyadh under the agreement amid attacks targeting Saudi Arabia.

The commanders strongly condemned Houthi attacks against the Kingdom and expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia. Pakistan’s commitment to protecting the security and sanctity of the Haramain Sharifain was reaffirmed.

The Makkah agreement provides a framework for collective defence cooperation among the three countries, while its institutional structure includes a secretariat to be established in Saudi Arabia.

The military leadership also reiterated Pakistan’s stated position on Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

The forum maintained its support for resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

Field Marshal Asim Munir commended military formations for their operational preparedness and professionalism.

He directed commanders to further intensify intelligence-based operations and strengthen combat capabilities through the adoption of modern technology, improved training and greater integration across multiple operational domains.

The army chief and defence forces chief expressed confidence that Pakistan’s Armed Forces, backed by the support of the nation, remain fully prepared to protect the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security.

The latest conference comes amid heightened regional security concerns, including terrorism-related challenges along Pakistan’s western frontier and increased defence coordination between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.
