MINSK — Pakistan and Belarus are exploring new avenues of cooperation in healthcare, advanced technology, education and cultural exchange as Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani visited leading medical and historical institutions during his official visit to Belarus.
Gilani visited Minsk Scientific and Practical Centre for Surgery, Transplantology and Hematology, where he addressed a special ceremony and highlighted the significant potential for deeper cooperation between the two countries in the healthcare and technology sectors.
The Senate chairman praised Belarus for its advanced medical capabilities, particularly its progress in organ transplantation, robotic surgery and artificial intelligence-based diagnostics. The Minsk centre itself provides high-tech specialised medical care and operates major transplantation, surgery, hematology and diagnostic facilities.
Gilani said Pakistan and Belarus should expand institutional linkages, academic exchanges and knowledge-sharing in the medical field, stressing that greater cooperation in modern healthcare technologies and professional expertise could create mutual benefits.
The Pakistani parliamentary delegation also witnessed a live medical procedure at Belarus’s advanced hybrid operating complex, providing the delegation with an opportunity to observe modern medical practices and technologies firsthand.
The visit formed part of a broader Pakistani parliamentary mission aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and opening new avenues of cooperation. The delegation’s programme included engagements with Belarusian political, industrial, scientific and medical institutions.
Gilani visited Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War, where he viewed historical exhibitions documenting the resistance and sacrifices of the Belarusian people during the war. Senate chairman paid tribute to the courage and resilience of the Belarusian people and emphasised the importance of strengthening Pakistan-Belarus friendship through parliamentary diplomacy and people-to-people contacts.
Minsk visit comes as Pakistan and Belarus are working to broaden cooperation across multiple sectors. Recent high-level discussions have covered trade, investment, agriculture, industry, technology, education, research and parliamentary engagement, while Pakistan has also called for stronger institutional links between universities and research organisations in both countries.
The two countries have also moved to strengthen parliamentary cooperation through a memorandum of understanding between Pakistan’s Senate and Belarus’s Council of the Republic, providing a framework for regular parliamentary exchanges and institutional engagement.
