DERA ISMAIL KHAN – A strong blast in Darazinda area of Dera Ismail Khan has killed 11 people and injured more than 30 others, including police personnel, customs officials and civilians.
The blast took place at the Aman Mela Police Check Post, located along the D.I. Khan–Quetta Road in the Darazinda area.
Initial probe reveals that an explosives-laden vehicle was rammed into the anti-smuggling checkpoint before detonating, triggering a massive explosion that caused widespread destruction and heavy casualties. The deceased include six police personnel, two customs officials, two women and a two-year-old child, according to initial information.
More than 30 people were also injured in the attack. Several of the injured are reportedly in critical condition, raising fears that the death toll could rise further. The explosion targeted a checkpoint involved in anti-smuggling operations, where police and customs personnel were performing their duties.
The attack has also raised concerns over a possible connection between militant groups and criminal elements involved in smuggling, although investigations into the incident are still underway.
Security operation underway
After the explosion, a heavy contingent of security personnel reached the site and immediately cordoned off the area. A search and clearance operation was launched as authorities moved to secure the site and investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Rescue teams also reached the scene and began shifting the injured to nearby medical facilities for treatment. The deadly incident has once again brought the deteriorating security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa into sharp focus, with security forces and civilians continuing to face serious threats from militant violence.
Authorities are investigating the attack, while further details about the perpetrators and the exact circumstances of the explosion are awaited.
