Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told the United Nations on Wednesday that Tehran would not allow the Strait of Hormuz to be used as a route for military action against Iran.
Addressing the annual UN gathering of world leaders, he said Iran could not accept a situation in which countries benefited from access to the strategic waterway while simultaneously using it to advance aggression against his country.
Pezeshkian also rejected claims that Iran had initiated the conflict, saying Tehran had never started a war and had consistently supported negotiations.
“They imposed the war on us, but we proved that we’re not afraid of fighting,” he said in his first appearance at the UN since the United States launched attacks against Iran.
The Iranian president said Tehran would not capitulate in its confrontation with Washington, while maintaining that diplomacy remained the preferred path toward ending the conflict.
