TEHRAN – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for stronger cooperation and continued engagement between Iran and Pakistan, emphasising the need to expand bilateral ties across multiple sectors.
Pezeshkian made these remarks during a meeting with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Tehran, where the two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the neighbouring countries.
The Iranian president said Iran and Pakistan could further strengthen their partnership in trade, energy, tourism and joint investment. He stressed that both countries could meet some of their needs by utilising their domestic and regional capacities.
He also observed that US pressure had brought Muslim countries closer and encouraged greater engagement among them.
Mohsin Naqvi described relations between Islamabad and Tehran as being at a high level and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation.
He said Pakistan was keen to enhance collaboration with Iran in trade, economic affairs, tourism and political engagement.
The interior minister added that Pakistan also sought to broaden cooperation with Iran in cultural and scientific fields.
A day earlier, Iran appreciated Pakistan’s military and civilian leadership for its efforts to promote regional peace and stability.
Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni made the remarks during a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart, Mohsin Naqvi, in Tehran.
According to Pakistan’s Interior Ministry, the ministers discussed bilateral relations, regional developments and progress in cooperation between their ministries.
Momeni thanked Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for their efforts to advance peace in the region, describing Naqvi’s visit as beneficial.
Naqvi said Pakistan-Iran relations would further strengthen in the coming days.
The visit comes amid Pakistan’s continued diplomatic engagement over the US-Iran conflict and follows Islamabad’s efforts to facilitate dialogue and an interim ceasefire between the two sides.
