JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said on Monday that his party would support a no-confidence motion against the government if one was tabled.
Speaking at a press conference, he warned that the ruling coalition would become a minority government if the PPP withdrew its backing.
Fazl said the opposition currently lacked the numbers to move such a motion and that no such move was under consideration. He maintained that the government could neither be formed nor sustained without JUI-F’s support.
The JUI-F chief called for an in-camera parliamentary session to brief lawmakers on the country’s situation, saying the public was being kept unaware of key developments.
He criticised the government’s performance in Sindh and Balochistan, citing rising street crime and daylight bank robberies, and said citizens and institutions lacked adequate protection.
Fazl also claimed that JUI-F Senator Abdul Shakoor Khan was stopped at an airport and prevented from travelling to China, while ministers in his province werbeing stopped on roads. He said the country was facing mounting debt, rising inflation and growing public hardship, warning that “we are sitting on a powder keg”.
Fazl reiterated that JUI-F would continue to advocate provincial rights and the control of provinces over their resources through constitutional means.
