TEHRAN — Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has landed in Tehran for high-level talks with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni as tensions between Iran and the United States continue to dominate the regional security landscape.
Naqvi was received by Momeni at the airport before the two ministers held talks covering Pakistan-Iran relations, regional developments and matters of mutual interest.

The timing of the visit has drawn particular attention, coming amid renewed concerns over the possibility of further US military action against Iran and continued uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.
However, Iranian media has sought to draw a clear line between Naqvi’s Tehran visit and the separate diplomatic exchanges between Washington and Tehran.
Iranian news agency Tasnim reported that Naqvi’s visit is not connected to any exchange of messages between Iran and the United States. According to the report, the Pakistani minister is neither carrying a message to Tehran nor expected to transmit an Iranian message to Washington.
Tasnim further reported that Iran’s seven conditions have already been clearly communicated to the United States and that Tehran’s position on those conditions remains unchanged.
The clarification comes as the Strait of Hormuz remains a major point of contention. Iranian parliament speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Iran’s conditions for reopening the strategic waterway had already been conveyed to the United States through mediators.
He said Tehran would not return to the previous situation unless its conditions were met and US commitments honoured.
Naqvi’s latest Tehran visit also comes against the backdrop of Pakistan’s earlier efforts to facilitate dialogue between Washington and Tehran. Pakistan has previously been involved in diplomatic efforts aimed at easing tensions between the two sides. Earlier reporting on Naqvi’s Tehran engagements showed that Islamabad had sought to help move the stalled Iran-US diplomatic track forward.
However, the talks subsequently ran into disagreements over key issues, including security guarantees and arrangements concerning freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
With the strategic waterway still at the centre of the wider crisis, Naqvi’s meeting with Momeni places renewed focus on Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement with its western neighbour.
For now, Tehran is stressing that the Pakistani minister’s mission is centred on Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations and cooperation, rather than carrying messages between Iran and the United States.
