ISLAMABAD — Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi issued blunt warning against any attempt to storm Islamabad, saying there is “no justification” for an assault on the capital following the court’s decision.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad along with Talal Chaudhry and other officials, Naqvi said all security forces had been given clear instructions to stop any such attempt by every possible means.
“Protest in your own area or city, but an attack on another province will not be accepted,” Naqvi said, drawing a clear line between the right to protest and attempts to force entry into Islamabad. He further warned that security personnel had been told not to simply stand by if protesters opened fire.
Naqvi also said that any attempt to storm the capital could lead to contempt of court proceedings, while stressing that Islamabad could not be shut down under the cover of protest.
“You cannot expect to fire at them and expect them to remain silent,” he said. interior minister also questioned the timing of planned sit-ins, saying it was inappropriate to prepare for protests while the country was simultaneously carrying the coffins of its martyrs.
His remarks come amid preparations for a forthcoming protest call, with authorities signaling that Islamabad will remain protected against any attempt to forcibly enter or paralyze the capital.
