KARACHI – Gold prices staged a sharp comeback in Pakistan on September 18, surging by Rs6,900 per tola as international bullion markets rallied, pushing the precious metal back above the Rs460,000 mark.
The price of 24-karat gold climbed to Rs460,336 per tola, recovering strongly after a steep decline in the previous session. The price of 10-gram gold also jumped by Rs5,914, reaching Rs394,663.
| Item / Period | Price |
| Gold – Current, per tola | Rs460,336 |
| Gold – Current, 10 grams | Rs394,663 |
| International gold | $4,378/oz |
| Silver – Current, per tola | Rs7,169 |
The latest surge came just a day after gold had taken a sharp hit. On Thursday, the per-tola rate fell Rs3,800 to Rs453,436, underscoring the extraordinary volatility that has gripped the bullion market in recent weeks.
The rally was mirrored in global markets, where gold climbed $69 to $4,378 per ounce. Reuters reported that spot gold reached around $4,378.97 an ounce on Friday, marking a second consecutive gain and taking the metal to a one-week high.
Gold was not the only precious metal to move sharply higher.
Gold Price Trend
The price of silver in Pakistan increased by Rs300 per tola, reaching Rs7,169. Internationally, silver was also advancing, with Reuters reporting spot silver up around 2.8% at $67.03 an ounce on Friday.
Pakistan’s bullion market has delivered dramatic price swings throughout 2026. Gold mounted a powerful rally early in the year, reaching its highest levels around late January. At that stage, the international-equivalent value was estimated at approximately Rs1.516 million per ounce, while domestic gold prices moved above Rs500,000 per tola, depending on currency conversion and prevailing market conditions.
The market regained momentum in August, with the average international-equivalent price estimated at around Rs1.225 million per ounce. Domestic gold subsequently climbed to nearly Rs484,000 per tola around August 25–26.
September brought a different picture, with prices initially retreating from those highs. The average international-equivalent price was estimated at approximately Rs1.209 million per ounce, while domestic rates remained below August’s peak.
Over the 30 days from mid-August to mid-September, local gold prices had fallen roughly 1.3% to 1.4%, sliding from a high near Rs484,000 per tola to a recent low in the Rs445,000–449,000 range.
Global markets
International developments have added further momentum to gold. Reuters reported that gold’s latest gains came as oil prices eased and the US dollar weakened, while investors assessed the US Federal Reserve’s recent interest-rate decision. The precious metal had also rebounded sharply on Thursday, gaining more than 2% after touching a near six-week low.
Higher interest rates can weigh on gold because they make interest-bearing assets relatively more attractive. However, movements in the dollar, oil prices, inflation expectations and geopolitical developments continue to influence bullion demand.
Despite the recent fluctuations, gold remains significantly more expensive than it was a year ago. In Pakistani rupee terms, the metal is approximately 15% higher year-on-year.
