The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will decide the future of wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan and Test opener Imam-ul-Haq after receiving the findings of an ongoing National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) probe.
The NCCIA is conducting a forensic examination of the players’ mobile phones as part of an inquiry into alleged dressing-room leaks during Pakistan’s Test series against England.
Media quoted sources as saying that investigators are reviewing messages, contacts and other digital data, while social media posts linked to the alleged leaks are also being examined. The initial review reportedly found nothing significant, but a detailed forensic analysis is continuing at the NCCIA headquarters in Islamabad.
The investigation is also looking into the players’ financial transactions before and after the England series to identify any suspicious activity.
Rizwan and Imam appeared before the NCCIA in Lahore earlier this month and were questioned over the alleged leaks. Rizwan has also submitted a written response seeking clarification over his summons and the continued retention of his mobile phone.
The NCCIA is expected to submit its findings to the PCB after completing the investigation. The allegations remain under investigation, and no final findings against either player have been announced.
The probe comes after Pakistan suffered heavy defeats in the first two Tests against England. The PCB subsequently released seven players, including Rizwan and Imam, from the squad and made changes to the coaching staff.
