BCCI Stops India Women from Taking Asia Cup Trophy from Naqvi

Bcci Stops India Women From Taking Asia Cup Trophy From Naqvi

India’s women’s cricket team did not collect the Asia Cup trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi, following instructions from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Speaking at the post-match press conference, , head coach Amol Muzumdar said that the players complied with the board’s directive.

“The BCCI decided that the women’s team would also not take the trophy. We are the champions of Asia and we followed the board’s decision,” he said.

Asked about when the players would eventually receive the trophy, Muzumdar said the team had no information on the matter.

“We don’t know anything about the trophy. There is no news about when we will get it,” he added.

The move departed from the standard presentation ceremony, in which the ACC president traditionally hands the trophy to the winning team.

BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla was reportedly at the Dubai Cricket Stadium and attempted to convince the Indian players to accept the trophy as a gesture of sportsmanship. However, the team had been specifically directed not to receive the trophy from Naqvi or go to the presentation area.

The incident follows a similar episode involving India’s men’s team, which declined to collect the Asia Cup trophy from Naqvi after the 2025 final in Dubai.

India’s Under-19 side also declined to receive runners-up medals from Naqvi in December 2025 following its 191-run defeat to Pakistan in the Under-19 Asia Cup final at the ICC Cricket Academy in Dubai. An Afghan cricket official later handed the medals to the Indian players.

The repeated incidents have added another political dimension to cricketing ties between India and Pakistan, with concerns growing that tensions between the two countries are increasingly spilling into official sporting ceremonies.
