US President Donald Trump has indicated that Washington could launch military action against Yemen’s Houthi movement if it poses a threat, while also revealing that the United States is engaged in ongoing discussions with Iran.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, he said the US is coordinating with Saudi Arabia regarding developments involving the Houthis. He recalled previous American strikes against the group, claiming they had effectively deterred further problems.
“If they become a problem, we’ll probably have to get involved,” Trump said, suggesting that military action remains an option if the situation escalates.
The US president also disclosed that Washington and Tehran are currently holding talks, expressing optimism that diplomacy could produce positive results.
According to him, Iranian representatives urged the US not to take military action while negotiations continue. He said they had appealed to Washington to refrain from striking, arguing that discussions were progressing well.
Trump added that there was a strong possibility of reaching an understanding, but warned that if diplomacy failed, the US would return to the approach it had adopted only days earlier.
Commenting on US missile defence capabilities, he dismissed concerns about ammunition shortages, saying the country possesses substantial stockpiles of various types of weapons.
