Pakistan’s Olympic champion javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem is set to begin his Commonwealth Games 2026 campaign in Glasgow as he aims to defend his men’s javelin throw title.
The defending champion will compete in the qualification round of the men’s javelin throw event on Thursday, July 30, 2026. The final round is scheduled for Friday, July 31, 2026.
Both events will be held during the evening athletics sessions in Glasgow.
The scheduled track and field window is from 6:30 PM to 10:15 PM local UK time, which corresponds to 10:30 PM to 2:15 AM Pakistan Standard Time (PKT).
Nadeem enters the competition as the reigning Commonwealth champion after producing a record-breaking throw of 90.18 metres to win gold at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The 29-year-old athlete will face a strong field in Glasgow, including India’s Neeraj Chopra, renewing one of the most anticipated rivalries in international javelin. Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga, who currently holds the season’s world-leading mark after recording a 92.62-metre throw at the Rome Diamond League, is also among the competitors.
Nadeem has acknowledged that defending his Commonwealth title will be a challenging task, with the level of competition expected to be higher than in previous editions.
The Pakistani star will be looking to bounce back after a difficult start to his 2026 athletics season. At the Spitzen Leichtathletik Luzern meeting in Switzerland, Nadeem finished ninth after recording a best throw of 78.47 metres in the event.
