NEW DELHI – Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has vowed to initiate legal proceedings against police officers involved in the baton charge on demonstrators during Monday’s march towards Parliament, describing the crackdown as “extremely brutal” and pledging to continue the protest until the group’s demands are fulfilled.
Speaking to reporters, Dipke said the police action would be challenged in court, alleging that excessive force had been used against peaceful demonstrators.
The remarks come two days after thousands of protesters marched from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 examination paper leak. The demonstration turned violent after clashes erupted between protesters and security personnel, including Delhi Police and the Rapid Action Force (RAF), who used batons and tear gas to disperse the crowd.
Videos of the confrontation have since circulated widely on social media, drawing criticism from many users over the police response. Some footage appearing online also showed individuals in plain clothes carrying police batons and using force against protesters, while other clips allegedly showed uniformed personnel without visible name tags.
Dipke said the protest had entered its 34th day and would continue until the demonstrators’ demands were accepted. He added that activist Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike had reached its 26th day, but the party was urging him to end the fast because of concerns over his deteriorating health.
“We are requesting Sonam Sir to end his hunger strike because we cannot afford to lose his life,” Dipke said.
Wangchuk, who is currently receiving treatment at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital, has also appealed to Dipke to end his own indefinite hunger strike.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke his silence on the month-long protests, stating that the welfare and future of the country’s youth remained the government’s highest priority.
In a post on X, the prime minister announced the establishment of fast-track courts to ensure speedy trials in examination paper leak cases.
“Nothing is more important than the welfare and future of our youth,” Modi said, adding that authorities had been directed to take all necessary measures to ensure strict punishment for those involved in paper leak scandals and to safeguard students’ interests.
