SAUDI Arabia’s continued efforts to improve facilities and services for Umrah and Hajj pilgrims deserve appreciation. Over the years, the Kingdom has introduced several measures aimed at making the spiritual journey more convenient, organized and accessible for millions of Muslims from around the world. The latest initiative is another step in this direction.
The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has now introduced a multiple-entry Umrah visa with one-year validity, allowing pilgrims to enter the Kingdom multiple times with a cumulative stay of up to 90 days annually. The new facility provides greater flexibility to pilgrims, enabling them to plan their Umrah visits according to their convenience. The integration of digital services through platforms such as Nusuk is also helping streamline arrangements and improve the overall experience. Such initiatives reflect Saudi Arabia’s commitment to facilitating pilgrims and using technology to make religious travel more efficient. With millions performing Umrah every year, ensuring ease of access, better coordination and improved services remains a significant responsibility. While Saudi Arabia continues to enhance facilities, our authorities concerned must also take necessary steps to make the Umrah journey smoother for the people. Apart from creating awareness among pilgrims about the latest visa facilities and procedures, there is a need for stricter oversight of Umrah operators and travel agencies. Licences of those failing to fulfil their obligations should be revoked. Complaints often surface that some operators create difficulties for pilgrims, including changing accommodation arrangements at the last moment after they have reached the holy land. Such practices only cause unnecessary hardships for the pilgrims. Effective monitoring are essential to protect pilgrims from inconvenience.
