WASHINGTON – The US Department of Defense has confirmed that nearly 100 American service members have been injured during the ongoing conflict with Iran over the past two weeks.
Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said that approximately 100 US troops have sustained injuries since July 7, ranging from minor to more serious wounds. He added that 96 percent of the injured personnel have already returned to active duty, indicating that most of the injuries were not severe.
The latest update comes as the Pentagon recently released the identities of two US soldiers killed in an Iranian attack, marking a significant development in the escalating military confrontation.
Previously, the Pentagon had reported that 14 US service members had been killed and 427 injured since February 28, without providing a detailed breakdown of the casualties sustained during the recent escalation.
The conflict has intensified following Iranian retaliatory strikes on US military installations in northern Iraq and Jordan, raising concerns that the death toll among American troops could increase.
According to US media reports, military authorities are examining unidentified human remains recovered from the site of an Iranian attack in Jordan. Officials believe the findings could indicate that additional US personnel were killed in the strike.
The United States has already acknowledged the deaths of three American soldiers in previous Iranian attacks, while one service member remains missing.
On Sunday, the US military also confirmed that an American soldier was killed during an operation in northern Iraq on July 18.
Earlier, an Iranian missile attack on Jordan reportedly killed two US soldiers, left one missing, and wounded four others, underscoring the growing human cost of the ongoing conflict.
