WASHINGTON – Pakistan’s plans to modernize PIA’s fleet gained momentum after Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held high-level talks at Boeing headquarters in Washington. Meeting with Boeing Global President Dr. Brendan Nelson, both sides discussed options for acquiring 16 new aircraft and agreed to expedite efforts to finalize the best possible deal.
Pakistan’s efforts to revive its national carrier gathered fresh momentum as Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited Boeing’s headquarters in Washington alongside a delegation from the newly appointed management of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
Two sides made progress on PIA’s proposed acquisition of 16 new aircraft, a move that could mark one of the airline’s most important fleet modernization initiatives in recent years.
The discussions focused on identifying the most competitive procurement options for the aircraft, with both parties agreeing to accelerate efforts to finalize the best possible commercial deal at the earliest opportunity. The high-level engagement shows Pakistan’s push to strengthen PIA’s operational capabilities through fleet renewal, as the national carrier seeks to enhance efficiency, expand its network, and improve passenger services.
Naqvi thanked Dr. Brendan Nelson for Boeing’s commitment to supporting the timely acquisition of the aircraft. He also praised Boeing’s leadership and longstanding contribution to the global aviation and aircraft manufacturing industry.
