MUMBAI – Indian singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh accepted only one rupee as a symbolic fee for his role in the film ‘Sutlej’, its director Honey Trehan has revealed.
In a recent interview, Trehan said Dosanjh became deeply emotional after hearing the script and seeing a photograph of Jaswant Singh Khalra, the renowned human rights activist whose life inspired the film.
According to the director, Dosanjh told him that accepting a regular acting fee for portraying such an influential personality would not feel appropriate.
Trehan said he repeatedly tried to persuade the actor to accept his full remuneration, but Dosanjh declined. The actor eventually agreed to accept just one rupee solely to fulfil the legal requirements of signing the contract.
The director also praised Dosanjh’s professionalism throughout the production, saying he remained fully committed to the project and never complained despite delays in the shooting schedule.
Sutlej has recently returned to the spotlight after it was removed from the streaming platform ZEE5 just two days after its release, prompting widespread discussion among audiences and the film industry.
The revelation about Dosanjh’s symbolic remuneration has drawn attention to his commitment to the project and the significance he attached to portraying Jaswant Singh Khalra on screen.
