ANKARA – Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited Türkiye for key diplomatic and military engagement aimed at strengthening strategic ties between two longstanding allies.

The visit marks another milestone in Pakistan–Türkiye defence relations, with the Field Marshal holding a series of high-level meetings with the country’s top political and military leadership to discuss regional security, defence cooperation, and issues of shared strategic importance.

Upon his arrival, Field Marshal Asim Munir was accorded a warm welcome, reflecting the enduring friendship and close historical ties between Pakistan and Türkiye. His engagements began with separate meetings with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler, where both sides exchanged views on the evolving regional security environment and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral strategic cooperation.

A key highlight of the visit came at the Turkish General Staff Headquarters, where the Pakistani Army Chief was received with a ceremonial Guard of Honour before holding detailed discussions with General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, Chief of the Turkish General Staff. The two military leaders reviewed regional security dynamics, professional military affairs, and avenues for enhancing defence collaboration between their armed forces.

In recognition of his outstanding contribution to strengthening military-to-military relations between Pakistan and Türkiye, Field Marshal Asim Munir was awarded the Turkish Armed Forces Distinguished Service Medal by General Bayraktaroğlu, underscoring the growing depth of defence cooperation between the two countries.

Continuing his engagements, the Field Marshal visited the Turkish Land Forces Headquarters, where he met General Metin Tokel, Commander of the Turkish Land Forces. Discussions focused on professional cooperation, operational collaboration, and further expanding institutional military ties.

As part of his official itinerary, Field Marshal Asim Munir also visited Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Türkiye. He laid a floral wreath and paid tribute to Atatürk’s legacy, a gesture symbolizing Pakistan’s respect for Türkiye’s national history and the longstanding bonds that unite the two nations.
