ISLAMABAD – Pakistan is taking key steps to strengthen business compliance and enhance supply chain transparency with support of International Labour Organization (ILO) to help businesses align with international labour standards, improve responsible business practices, and promote greater accountability across supply chains.
The initiative moves forward during national multi-stakeholder consultation jointly convened by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the National Compliance Centre (NCC) under the Ministry of Commerce. The consultation brought together senior representatives from government institutions, employers’ organizations, industry and technical partners to review the proposed platform, validate its functional requirements and discuss governance and institutional arrangements.
Participants also explored ways to integrate the platform with Pakistan’s existing digital systems to create a practical, user-friendly solution that reduces duplication, improves coordination among regulatory agencies and addresses the compliance needs of businesses.
Once operational, the National Digital Compliance & Traceability Platform will serve as a single digital gateway through which enterprises can manage regulatory compliance requirements and strengthen supply chain traceability. The platform is expected to reduce administrative burdens, improve access to reliable compliance information and support evidence-based policymaking.
Officials say the initiative will also enhance transparency across value chains, promote responsible business conduct and strengthen enterprise formalization, enabling businesses to meet both domestic regulatory requirements and evolving international standards.
The platform forms part of the ILO’s broader collaboration with the Government of Pakistan and industry stakeholders to improve compliance systems, promote sustainable supply chains and encourage decent work. It also aligns with Pakistan’s efforts to meet changing global market expectations, including compliance obligations under the European Union’s GSP+ trade preferences and emerging international digital product traceability requirements.
“National Digital Compliance & Traceability Platform is an important step towards helping enterprises navigate compliance more efficiently while strengthening transparency and accountability across supply chains,” said Geir Tonstol, Country Director of the ILO in Pakistan.
He said the initiative would support enterprise formalization, improve supply chain sustainability and help Pakistani businesses respond to evolving international market requirements while promoting decent work and sustainable economic growth. He added that the ILO was proud to partner with the Government of Pakistan and national stakeholders in advancing the initiative.
The consultation concluded with a renewed commitment from government institutions, employers’ organizations, private sector representatives and development partners to jointly develop a modern and integrated digital compliance ecosystem aimed at facilitating market access, promoting sustainable economic growth and strengthening trust across supply chains.
According to stakeholders, the National Digital Compliance & Traceability Platform is expected to become the first integrated system of its kind in the region, positioning Pakistan as a more competitive, transparent and trusted trading partner in global markets.
