ISLAMABAD – A legal and media storm erupted around actress Momina Iqbal after she accused PML-N MPA of harassment just before her wedding.
The recent controversy comes as Momina Iqbal lodged an online complaint against the politician, prompting swift action from NCCIA. The case is now under active investigation, while her sister Ramsha Iqbal, who is a practicing lawyer, has taken charge of pursuing the matter and representing the family’s side.
In a strongly worded press briefing, the MPA’s lawyer, Mian Ashfaq, presented a completely different narrative. He claimed that his client and Momina were not strangers but shared a close personal relationship and were even on the verge of getting married. He suggested that the issue goes far beyond a simple harassment complaint, calling it a long-standing one-on-one relationship rather than an online or casual connection.
The lawyer further alleged that Momina Iqbal received major financial and social benefits from his client over a period of nearly five years. He claimed that tens of millions had been provided and questioned what was being offered in return, insisting the matter requires deep investigation. He also hinted that additional details about the complainant’s background would be revealed later, calling it an unusual and complex case involving political sensitivities and rival interests.
Adding another layer to the controversy, he stated that tensions in the relationship escalated after his client allegedly discovered details about Momina’s previous marriage, which he claimed had not been disclosed earlier. He also confirmed that the MPA’s wife is linked to the case and is expected to appear before the court as proceedings move forward.
Momina Iqbal is currently preparing for her wedding with Muhammad Hamza Habibi, with her nikah scheduled for 1st June.
