KARACHI – Armed men robbed gold jewellery, cash and other valuables worth over Rs30 million from multiple jewellery shops in a market near Jauhar Chowrangi in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, police the local police confirmed on Wednesday.
The police officials saidthe incident occurred on Monday evening when four armed suspects targeted several jewellery outlets in the area.
A case was registered on the complaint of Aijaz Husain, president of the local jewellers’ association and one of the affected shop owners.
Police said the FIR was lodged under relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code related to armed robbery and common intention.
In his statement, the complainant said the suspects first broke into his son Laraib’s closed shop during Maghrib prayer time and looted gold ornaments worth Rs21.9 million along with Rs2 million in cash.
The same group then entered another jewellery store owned by Aziz Ahmed at gunpoint and allegedly took gold jewellery valued between Rs3 million and Rs4 million.
The suspects later targeted additional shops in the market, including one owned by Sharjeel, from where they snatched a mobile phone from the shopkeeper. They also robbed another outlet where employee Jamil was present, taking away gold jewellery worth around Rs7 million, police added.
The police said the suspects fired shots while fleeing the scene, causing panic in the area. Glass panels of one of the shops were damaged during the incident. Investigators also found blood stains at the scene, suggesting that one of the suspects may have been injured.
Crime Scene Unit teams collected forensic evidence, including blood samples and three spent bullet casings, for further analysis.
The police launched an investigation to identify and trace the suspects involved in the coordinated robbery.
