WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump revealed in an interview that a decisive military strike on Iran was halted at the request of “some very good people in Pakistan” who are closely connected to Tehran.
Trump said these individuals advised him to pause and seek a diplomatic deal instead.
Speaking on US television, Trump criticized Iran, claiming that negotiations often appear to reset the following day and described their approach as erratic.
Regarding a recent conflict, Trump stated that he was initially opposed to a ceasefire but agreed to it at the urging of other nations, calling the decision a favor to Pakistan.
He also praised Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, describing them as remarkable leaders.
During his return from a visit to China, Trump called the trip historic and successful, highlighting major trade agreements and positive bilateral relations.
He added that discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping included nuclear arms reduction and the Taiwan issue.
Trump reaffirmed that US policy on Taiwan remains unchanged and indicated that there are currently no plans to approve arms sales to the island.
He also commented on Iran’s nuclear program, stating he had no objection to a 20-year freeze but stressed that Iran’s commitment must be genuine.
