BEIJING – At least 21 people have died and 61 others were injured in a powerful explosion at a fireworks factory in Liuyang, central China, according to Xinhua News Agency.
The blast occurred Monday afternoon at the Huasheng Fireworks Manufacturing and Display facility, prompting an immediate emergency response.
Over 480 personnel, organized into five teams and supported by specialized rescue robots, were dispatched to the scene.
Authorities expressed concern over two nearby black powder warehouses, which could trigger additional explosions.
Residents in the surrounding area were evacuated, and a safety perimeter was set up.
By Tuesday morning, the initial search concluded, confirming casualties and ensuring injured individuals received medical care.
A second search operation is currently underway to assess further damage and risks.
