Babar Azam has been named captain of the Team of the Tournament after delivering standout performances with both bat and leadership in the recently concluded HBL Pakistan Super League 11.
The selected XI features strong representation across franchises, with three players each from Peshawar Zalmi and Hyderabad Kingsmen, two each from Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United, and one each from Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators.
The squad was finalised by a five-member panel from the commentary team, which also named an Emerging Team of the Tournament featuring rising Pakistani talent. The competition included 44 matches played between March 26 and May 3 in Lahore and Karachi.
Leading from the front, Babar amassed 588 runs as an opener, securing the Hanif Mohammad Cap for being the top scorer. He also equalled Fakhar Zaman’s record for the most runs in a single PSL season and celebrated his first title as captain alongside his third as a player. His campaign included two centuries against Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United within a short span.
From Peshawar Zalmi, Kusal Mendis and Sufyan Moqim also made the cut. Mendis contributed 550 runs, including a century and four fifties, while performing wicketkeeping duties with eight dismissals. Sufyan impressed with 22 wickets at an average of 14.40, earning both Player of the Tournament and Best Bowler honours.
Hyderabad Kingsmen’s trio includes Usman Khan, who scored 389 runs, along with Hassan Khan and emerging star Hunain Shah. Hassan contributed with both bat and ball, while Hunain claimed 17 wickets despite missing early matches.
From Lahore Qalandars, Fakhar Zaman scored 401 runs to finish among the top performers, while Shaheen Shah Afridi picked up 16 wickets with consistent pace bowling.
Shan Masood represented Multan Sultans after scoring 367 runs at an impressive average and strike rate. Meanwhile, Islamabad United’s captain Shadab Khan earned a place for his all-round excellence, scoring 173 runs and taking 17 wickets, alongside teammate Richard Gleeson, who took 12 wickets with the new ball.
Hasan Nawaz of Quetta Gladiators was named the 12th player after scoring 291 runs.
The Emerging Team of the Tournament was led by Sameer Minhas, Islamabad United’s top scorer with 349 runs. He was joined by standout performers including Farhan Yousuf, Ali Raza, and Hunain Shah, along with a promising group featuring Momin Qamar, Ubaid Shah, Mohammad Ismail, Saad Masood, Shamyl Hussain, Maaz Sadaqat, and wicketkeeper Mirza Saad Baig.
