QUETTA – Authorities halted all train services from Balochistan to other regions for Thursday in wake of heightened security risks.
Jaffar Express, which was scheduled to depart from Balochistan’s capital to Peshawar, and Bolan Mail, running from Quetta to Karachi, will not operate today, leaving thousands of passengers stranded.
The situation also affects Chaman Passenger, which travels to the border town of Chaman, as it will not provide services to passengers.
Officials have urged calm, assuring the public that train operations from Balochistan will resume normally from tomorrow, promising smooth travel once again.
Balochistan witnessed a series of attacks targeting train services, showing ongoing separatist insurgency in the region. The most notable incident occurred in March 2025, when terrorists from Baloch Liberation Army hijacked Jaffar Express in the Bolan Pass, detonating explosives and taking hundreds of hostages, including civilians and off-duty security personnel.
Dozens killed and many injured. Other attacks, such as bombings near Mastung in August 2025 and IED strikes near Machh-Sibi in December 2025, repeatedly disrupted rail services, highlighting trains and railway infrastructure as strategic targets.
