Germany, a Western European country with a strong economy, offers various types of work visas to cater skilled and educated individuals who can play their role in the country’s growth.
Recently, the German Consulate General Karachi announced that an online portal has been launched to submit visa applications without any hassle in Pakistan. It said people can apply for employment visas through this portal.
The consulate general also shared the details of work visas being offered by Germany to the individuals in Pakistan.
Types of German Work Visas
Opportunity Card
The Opportunity Card is a type of residence permit that allows workers from non-EU countries to enter Germany to look for employment or pursue the recognition of their foreign qualifications. Applicants are assessed through a points-based system, which considers qualifications, skills, and personal circumstances. To be eligible, a minimum score of six points is required.
Blue Card (EU)
The Blue Card (EU) is a residence permit offered by European Union member states to skilled non-EU nationals with a university degree or IT professional experience. It enables them to take up employment in an EU country, provided they meet specific requirements. The Blue Card application for employment in Germany must be submitted to the local foreigners’ office.
Employment as an Academic
Non-EU skilled workers (excluding nationals from Liechtenstein, Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland) have the option to apply for a residence permit to work in Germany, provided they meet the necessary criteria. You can apply for this permit at the Aliens’ Office in Germany.
Employment as a Skilled Worker with Vocational Training
Skilled workers from non-EU countries, including those outside of Liechtenstein, Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland, can apply for a residence permit to work in Germany if they fulfill the required conditions. This includes obtaining a visa for entry, which can be applied for online through the Consular Services Portal or at the nearest German diplomatic mission.
Employment with Work Experience
Non-EU nationals can obtain a residence permit for employment in Germany based on their work experience, as long as they meet the eligibility criteria. Typically, applicants need a visa to enter Germany, which can be obtained online or via the local German mission.
Employment under a Placement Agreement
Skilled workers from non-EU countries need a recognized professional qualification to work in Germany. This qualification must be officially acknowledged before entering the country.
Qualification Assessment
If you’re a skilled worker from a non-EU country and your professional qualification is not yet recognized, you can have your skills and knowledge evaluated through a qualification analysis. This process is carried out by a designated recognition authority in Germany. If the recognition process is delayed or documents are missing, this analysis can serve as an alternative to verify your qualifications. You typically need a visa to enter Germany, which you can apply for online or at a local German mission, and this visa will authorize you to undergo the qualification assessment once in Germany.
