LAHORE –Lahore is only behind Delhi on the list of the world’s most polluted cities, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 247 (very unhealthy).
Prolonged dryness and stable atmospheric conditions caused persistent accumulation of pollutants emitted from vehicles and other moving and stationary sources.
According to the data collected from the IQ Air website on Tuesday at 02:40 pm, India’s Delhi leads the list with an AQI of 280 (very unhealthy), followed by Lahore with an AQI of 247 (very unhealthy).
China’s Chongqing ranked third with an AQI of 201 (very unhealthy), followed by Kuwait City (Kuwait) with an AQI of 190 (unhealthy).
Dhaka (Bangladesh) ranked fifth with an AQI of 189 (unhealthy), closely followed by Kolkata (India) with an AQI of 185. Cairo (Egypt) and Tashkent (Uzbekistan) are in seventh and eighth spot with AQI of 177 and 168 (unhealthy), respectively.
Hanoi (Vietnam) ranked ninth with an AQI of 167 (unhealthy), followed by Mumbai (India) with an AQI of 164 (unhealthy).
AQI of the top three cities is very unhealthy, and that of fourth to 16th-ranked cities is unhealthy, while that of 17th to 25th cities is unhealthy for sensitive groups.
