LONDON – Indian delegation escaped from Oxford Union debate, leaving world to witness another collapse of India’s narrative on Pakistan.
The debate, held under Oxford University’s prestigious and impartial traditions, was set to focus on Pakistan-India relations. Pakistan was represented by a powerhouse delegation, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General (R) Zubair Mahmood Hayat, former Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, and Pakistan’s High Commissioner Dr. Muhammad Faisal, all fully prepared to present a formidable case.
The debate’s approved resolution stated: “India’s Pakistan policy is merely a strategy to incite public sentiment.” Indian speakers, seemingly unable to face these arguments, retreated at the very start, avoiding questions, counterpoints, and the inevitable voting process. Their sudden exit highlighted the weaknesses of India’s position on a neutral and globally respected platform like the Oxford Union. Remarkably, this occurred despite the fact that the majority of Oxford students are of Indian origin—a detail that makes India’s absence all the more conspicuous.
Pakistani delegation had meticulously prepared to engage with robust arguments on international law, diplomacy, and regional security. High Commissioner Dr. Faisal showcased his diplomatic mastery, confident media presence, and international credibility, reinforcing Pakistan’s strong stance amidst heightened tensions in the region.
New Delhi’s dramatic withdrawal adds to series of diplomatic setbacks since May 2025, exposing its narrative vulnerabilities. Indian analysts who frequently launch anti-Pakistan media campaigns were nowhere to be seen when confronted with open debate. This behavior has raised serious questions, both globally and domestically, about India’s willingness to engage in dialogue.
As Winston Churchill famously said, dialogue is preferable to war, but India’s actions indicate it is neither ready for conversation nor prepared to be held accountable.
Pakistan, in contrast, presented a well-prepared, logical, and principled argument, further solidifying its image as a nation striving for peace in South Asia. India’s retreat, even before discussions began, paints a stark picture of its inability to defend its policies. This dramatic episode underscores the persistent efforts of Pakistan to promote regional stability, while India continues to escalate tensions in South Asia.
