Punjab University will organise a variety of online co-curricular competitions and offer free online courses to engage people in positive activities at home in the prevailing situation of the country due to outbreak of Covid-19.
In this regard, PU Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad has met heads of various departments separately at his office here on Thursday. Giving details, PU VC Prof Niaz Ahmad said that engaging people at home in healthy activities in order to ease their mental stress and keep them physically fit was one of the most important components of war on Covid-19.
He said that PU Directorate of Students Affairs would organize various co-curricular competitions in which people from all over Pakistan would participate.
He said that online competitions of Qirat, Naat, essay writing, English and Urdu debates, national songs, poetry, singing etc would be organized. He said that PU College of Art and Design would offer free online courses of calligraphy, paintings and other subjects of fine arts.
He said that online entries in the competitions of calligraphy, paintings and other categories would be received from all Pakistanis.
He said that PU Department of Sports would organize online gaming competitions for children, adults and senior citizens. He said that various departments of Punjab University would also present sketches and messages to create awareness against domestic violence and other social issues.
Prof Niaz Ahmad said that PU College of Information Technology would also offer free-of-cost online computer courses for all Pakistanis and people would learn technical skill and generate business for themselves.
He said that it was necessary to take care of mental and physical health of people who were at home due to lockdown.
