Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Pakistan weather; cold wave prevails, fog intensifies in plains

ISLAMABAD – Cold waves will continue to prevail in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and most parts of Pakistan on Wednesday night, Thursday and Friday.

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan. A shallow westerly wave prevails over upper parts of the country.

Under these weather conditions, mainly cold and dry weather will continue to persist in the twin cities and most parts of Pakistan on Wednesday night and the next two days.

Very cold and partly cloudy will prevail hilly areas. Light rain/light snowfall may occur at isolated places in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas. Moderate to dense fog (in patches) will likely prevail in plain areas of Punjab, upper Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between -01°C to 01°C on Thursday and Friday.

Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 02-04°C on Thursday and Friday.

Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in the twin cities and most parts of Pakistan during the last 24 hours. Extremely cold and cloudy weather prevailed in hilly areas.

Leh remained the coldest place in Pakistan where the temperature dropped 10°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Gupis was recorded at -08°C, Skardu and Ziarat -07°C, Kalat -06°C, Hunza, Gilgit and Dalbandin -05°C, Astore and Quetta -04°C, and Kalam, Rawlakot and Nokkundi at -03°C.

In Islamabad, minimum temperature was recorded at 01°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 60 per cent.

In Rawalpindi, minimum temperature was recorded at 03°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 40 per cent.
