PAL hosts writer Muneeza Shamsi in ‘Meet the Writer’ programme

Pakistan Academy of Letter (PAL) organized a literary program under “Meet the Writer”, with well-known English critic and journalist MuneezaShamsi.

While welcoming the participants Director General, PAL, Sultan Nasir said that MuneezaShamsi is a celebrated Pakistani English writer and critic.He also congratulated her on receiving Sitara-e-Imtiaz which Govt. of Pakistan has bestowed on her in recognition of her literary services.While expressing her gratitude to the PAL for organizing an evening with her, MuneezaShamsi said she considered herself a student of literature and learning is something that never ends. While talking about her creative career and family background, she said she came from a family that had rich literary taste and critical approach.

Her grandmother was from the family of MirzaGhalib’s son Zain-ul-Abiden. She said that her aunt, AttiyaHussain, a prominent English novelist played a vital role in the literary training of Muneeza’s daughter KamilaShamsi, who is an internationally acclaimed Pakistani English novelist.She further said that creative writing was a continuous process and a writer should keep on writing to flex his/her writing muscles. She also said that the present lot of Pakistan English writer was full of promise. “My book ‘Hybrid Tapestries’ bagged worldwide appreciation form critics and readers,” said she in reply to a question and mentioned Prof UmerMemon, who remain a big literary inspiration for her.

She confessed that creative process is not free from Market Pressure.At the end of the meeting, Sultan Nasir, Director General presented her a set of PAL’s English books.

The guests on the occasion also visited Hall of Fame.
