Peshawar Seals Four Educational Institutions Over Unsafe Buildings

Peshawar Seals Four Educational Institutions Over Unsafe Buildings

KOHAT: The district administration has sealed four educational institutions, including a government primary school, in Peshawar after declaring their buildings unsafe due to their dilapidated condition, as a precautionary measure to protect the lives of students, teachers and other staff members.

According to an official statement, the action was taken on the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Afaq Wazir following concerns that the deteriorating structures could collapse and cause a serious tragedy.

During the operation conducted by Additional Assistant Commissioner (AAC), two private educational institutions, a government primary school and a madrasa, were closed as a precautionary measure.

The sealed institutions include Moonlight School and Madrasa in Ganj Mandi, Rimsha School in Yakka Toot, and Government Primary School in Lahori Gate. The first three are privately run educational institutions, while the latter is a government-run school.

The district administration said the buildings had become hazardous due to their poor structural condition, posing a potential threat to the lives of students, teachers and other occupants.

It added that the decision to seal the institutions had been taken to avert any untoward incident and ensure the safety of children and other citizens.

It is pertinent to mention that the roof collapse of a private school in Peshawar’s Dir Colony, which reportedly claimed the lives of 33 students and a female teacher, prompted the provincial government to launch a province-wide assessment of the structural safety of buildings housing both public and private educational institutions.

The administration reiterated that the protection of human lives, particularly those of schoolchildren, remained its foremost priority, adding that action against dilapidated and potentially dangerous buildings would continue.

The development has also underscored the need for regular structural inspections, timely repairs and rehabilitation of educational buildings to ensure safe learning environments for students across the city.
