LAHORE – In line with instructions from the Punjab government, the Lahore Fort and Shalimar Gardens will remain closed for tourists due to increasing smog in the provincial capital.

A government spokesperson stated that the Tomb of Jahangir, the Tomb of Nur Jahan, and the Shahi Hammam at Delhi Gate will also be closed until November 17.

He further said that due to the worsening smog situation, all literary events at the Wazir Khan Baradari have been suspended. The “History by Night” tour of Lahore Fort has also been halted until further notice.

Due to the deteriorating smog conditions, parks and museums in various cities of Punjab have been closed.

The Walled City Authority has suspended all types of tourist programs until further notice, with the closure lasting until November 17.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government has made wearing masks compulsory for citizens in open places in four divisions.

As per the notification issued by Punjab Environmental Protection (EPA) Director General (DG) Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh on Wednesday, general public of Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Multan has been advised to wear masks in open spaces till January 31, 2025.
