VILNIUS – A DHL cargo plane crashed near a residential building while attempting to land in the capital of Lithuania.

According to an international news agency, the cargo plane had taken off from Leipzig, Germany, en route to Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania.

The cargo plane was scheduled to land at Vilnius Airport, where it encountered freezing temperatures.

A fire broke out in the Boeing 737 aircraft, owned by DHL, a renowned global logistics company, after it collided with the building.

The fire brigade managed to extinguish the fire. Two severely injured individuals were transported to the hospital from the crash site.

One of the injured succumbed to their injuries during treatment, while the other is reported to be in critical condition.

It is not yet clear whether the deceased and injured were crew members of the aircraft or residents of the affected house.

The cause of the crash remained undetermined.

The initial investigations suggested the bad weather as a possible factor.

The experts considered the Boeing 737, a 31-year-old aircraft, to have an aging airframe. However, its use for cargo flights is not unusual.

The efforts to contact the airline company by the foreign news agency have so far gone unanswered.
