KARACHI – The Excise & Taxation Department is the main revenue collecting agency of the Sindh government which plays a paramount role in resource mobilization.
It also collects token tax, registration fee, luxury tax and others from owners of vehicles depending on their category.
The Motor Vehicle Tax is levied under Sindh Motor Vehicle Taxation Act, 1958 and Motor Vehicle Rules, 1959.
The registration of vehicles is being affected through computerized system and tax is also collected through 12 designated National Bank branches, linked with Civic Centre Karachi.
The department collects luxury tax at the time of registration of imported vehicles. The tax rate vary for the vehicles depending on their engine capacity as the provincial government has introduced different slabs in this regard.
Luxury Tax on Imported Vehicles Update
The provincial excise department collects fixed amount of luxury tax on imported vehicles depending on their engine capacity.
It collects Rs450,000 in wake of luxury tax on imported motor Cars with the engine Capacity from 3000 CC and above.
The fixed luxury tax on imported motor cars with the engine capacity from 2000 CC to 2999 CC stands at Rs275,000.
The excise department charges Rs100,000 luxury tax on imported motor cars with the engine capacity from 1500 CC to 1999 CC.
