KARACHI – Renowned Islamic scholar Dr. Zakir Naik, who is currently in Pakistan as a state guest, has apologised for his remarks regarding Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

Dr Naik stated that Governor of Sindh Kamran Tessori reminded him of the incident, and there was considerable pressure on him from social media. He said, “I promote peace, and if my comments about PIA hurt the feelings of my Pakistani brothers, I apologize.”

He further emphasised, “Our ultimate goal is to attain the passport of paradise, not a worldly passport”.

It is recalled that during a speech at an event in Karachi, Dr. Naik said that while traveling from Malaysia to Pakistan, they had a thousand kilograms of luggage. He said he spoke to PIA’s country manager about waiving the excess baggage charges.

In reply, the PIA official said he will give 50% discount on the excess weight. Dr. Naik responded that it would be better for him to bring along four more people as that would be more economical.

Dr Naik had expressed his grievance about the attitude of the Pakistani airline, saying, “In India, if any non-Muslim sees me, they let me go without charge”.

But in Pakistan, he lamented that he was offered only 50% discount despite being a state guest.

“I was saddened that despite being a state guest, this was the treatment I received. I do not want your discount; instead, I brought along six more people, and their luggage came along as well.”
