DUBAI – Australia thrashed Pakistan by nine wickets in a Group A match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Dubai on Friday evening.

Chasing a below par 83-run target for the victory, Australia crossed the finishing line for the loss of one wicket with 54 balls to spare.

Skipper Alyssa Healy was the highest scorer who was retired hurt after making 37 runs. Ellyse Perry scored 22 and Berth Mooney made 15 runs. Sadia Iqbal took one wicket. Ashleigh Gardner was named player of the match.

After being asked to bat first, Pakistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out at 82 on the penultimate ball of the allocated 20 overs.

Aliya Riaz was the top scorer with 26 runs followed by Sidra Amin and Iram Javed who made 12 runs each. Nida Dar scored 10 runs. No other batter could enter the double figures.

Ashleigh Gardner bagged four wickets, Annabel Sutherland and Georgia Warehem two each and Megan Schutt and Sophie Molineux took one wicket each.
