It is my privilege to share my views on the occasion of the International Maritime Symposium 2024. The theme, “Realizing the Blue Economy through the Prism of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” reflects Pakistan’s commitment to a sustainable, prosperous, and equitable future.

The Blue Economy provides a transformative opportunity for developing nations like Pakistan to responsibly utilize our extensive maritime resources. By adopting sustainable practices and fostering international cooperation, we can address environmental challenges, create jobs, and ensure food security for our nation. The ocean holds immense potential for driving economic growth, but this must be balanced with the preservation of our marine ecosystems for future generations.

To fully realise this vision, we must confront pressing issues such as climate change, marine pollution, and overfishing. Pakistan remains committed to collaborating with other developing nations to implement innovative strategies that promote sustainable maritime governance. Our efforts aim to develop frameworks that protect our environment while unlocking economic opportunities, ensuring a balanced approach to growth and sustainability.

This symposium will serve as an invaluable platform for sharing knowledge, exchanging experiences, and learning from best practices. It highlights the importance of collaboration between nations, industries, and communities as we work towards building a sustainable Blue Economy. Together, by building capacity and encouraging innovation, we can navigate towards a maritime future that benefits all, fostering economic resilience while safeguarding our oceans.

I commend the National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) for its unwavering dedication to advancing the maritime sector. Their efforts in organising this symposium are crucial in promoting dialogue and shaping a shared vision for sustainable maritime development. I am confident that the insights and strategies discussed today will drive meaningful progress and help us achieve our collective goals.
