Karachi’s administration has intensified its campaign against professional beggars, resulting in the arrest of 79 beggars in two days, bringing the total number of arrests to 205. According to a spokesperson, all apprehended beggars have been handed over to the police for further action.

Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, has directed all deputy commissioners to ensure effective measures to curb the activities of professional beggars and to report their actions in the ongoing crackdown.

Deputy Commissioner South, AltafSario, reported that he had initiated this campaign in March, successfully arresting 127 beggars to date. In response to the growing concern over this issue, the Karachi administration has decided to establish rehabilitation centers for beggars, with various deputy commissioners actively searching for suitable locations. Commissioner Naqvi emphasized the importance of taking decisive action against beggars, urging that they should not return to the streets.

Deputy Commissioner South, AltafSario noted that the presence of professional beggars at traffic signals, intersections, and major roads causes significant inconvenience to residents. Details from Deputy Commissioner East, ShehzadAbbasi, indicated that six professional beggars were apprehended from Tariq Road and handed over to the police. In District West, four beggars were caught near Qatar Hospital, while 18 were taken into custody in Keamari, and 34 were arrested around Ghazi Mazar and Manghopir Road.

The operation also led to the arrest of 24 beggars in Korangi, 18 in Malir, and 9 in Central District.
