LAHORE – Internet and mobile phone services are likely to remain suspended in several cities in Punjab including Rawalpindi, Attock and in the federal capital in bid to maintain public order amid a protest call by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
Local media reported that there will be suspension of mobile and internet services in several cities across Punjab to curb spread of misinformation and to deal with potential unrest like in previous weeks.
Social media apps like WhatsApp, and Instagram remain disrupted in recent weeks as authorities restricted communication channels to manage agitation.
On Friday, residents of Punjab and capital city are urged to stay informed through official announcements and to exercise patience during this period.
Security forces are on high alert, with additional personnel deployed to key areas to ensure public safety and prevent any escalation of violence. Authorities are calling for peaceful protests and encouraging citizens to express their concerns in a calm manner.
Interior Minister warns PTI against protests in capital
Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) plans to hold a protest at D-Chowk in capital city Islamabad tomorrow on Friday, prompting Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to warn against any attempts to disrupt the capital.
PTI announced taking to the streets for independence of judiciary and Imran’s release from jail. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi emphasized that Section 144 is in effect and that law enforcement, including the army and paramilitary forces, is prepared to maintain order, especially with foreign delegations arriving for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit.
He also urged PTI to reconsider their protest plans, stating that any violent actions would not be tolerated and would face firm repercussions.
