RAWALPINDI – Pakistan has appointed Lt. Gen. Asim Malik as the new Director-General of the apex spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the state broadcaster said.
The new ISI chief will replace Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum, who is slated to step down from armed forces this month. Army’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations ISPR has not shared any development about the key appointment.
Lt Gen Asim Malik’s key role in state institutions came to light soon after the news was shared by state media.

The new chief of country’s spy agency holds vast military background. He served in in Balochistan infantry division and commanded an infantry brigade in Waziristan.
Malik, who earned honorary sword during his training, held notable positions as chief instructor at the National Defense University (NDU) and as an instructor at the Command and Staff College Quetta. He attended US Fort Leavenworth and the Royal College of Defense Studies in London.
His role as upcoming spy chief will be crucial as the country is facing surge in militancy and political uncertainty.
